We went inside
the forest and stopped near a very small pond when we saw a dead wild boar. Flies
were hovering around it. It was so smelly there I almost felt like puking. It
was too marshy and we couldn't go close to the wild boar. We could see its little
tusk and its nose was not there. Its skin were little torn, mostly eaten by
birds. - Chaitanya S Vellal, 5B

Tracks and Signs - DKS
This Owl pellet has the mandible, or lower jaw bone of a rodent and few femur bones. Notice the long incisor teeth on the right, and the molars at the center of the jaw. By studying the dentition, scientists can identify the particular species of rodent or mammal.
I found this Toad dropping outside my school. It was black in color.May be that this Toad was hungry because when I analysed the dropping, I counted 11 ant heads, a butterfly and a beetle - Akansh Ron, 6B

Tracks and signs - SKPS
I was very excited after entering the forest for the first time and enjoyed the company of my team members. The topic during the visit was tracks and signs. I was very eager to know what birds we are going to track and watch and the way to track them. It was interesting to track the birds by their call. By scrutinizing the dropping we found that the bird was probably a Grey Jungle fowl. As instructed we were asked to look for droppings by going in a different route and we were able to find one dropping. It was herbivore droppings as it contained grass. I look forward to more exciting visits in the coming classes and hope to see wild animals. – Prajwal.V, 7C

We went to the jungle and saw and heard many things. It was really fun as we saw things like snake molt,
Red Wattled Lapwing (bird), Crimson Rose Butterfly and two different types of
stick insects. We all had a wonderful and adventurous time. – Aryan Kurup, 6A
Today we went to the forest and we found snake skin. I was fascinated
because the skin was long and had a star on it. We also found a stick
insect camouflaged. At first it was really hard for me to find it but
finally I found it. - R.Nisha, 6F
In today’s class we learnt to analyze
cattle dung. In that we found insect, spider and beetle. We heard the call of
the Red Wattled Lapwing. We even saw a snake molt. - Karthik K B, 6C
We
found a 20cm length, 8cm width, 5cm height dung. Insects like
ants, beetles and stick insects feeding on it. By cutting it we found out
it was cattle dung. Second we found a hare pellet. It was spherical and small.
It belonged to a Black Naped hare. Thirdly we found a bird dropping. It was
white in colour as it contained uric acid. We also heard a lapwing that sounded
like "did you do it ?". We also saw the Crimson Rose Butterfly. It
was a fun experience and I wish to have a great many of these ! – Vibhu.A, 6C

World Environment Day - Tree Planting Program
The first Saturday of our academic year 2012-2013 was a very memorable one. The experience was stupendous and unique. We all mourned when we were told to come on a weekend. We were briefed about the two species we would be planting- 25 Neem and 25 Honge saplings. We started our work in about 15 minutes after the briefing. We were helped by a gardener and Madhu sir. The pits were dug and all we had to do was to take out the plastic bag off the plant, put the plant in the pit, fill up the same with loose soil and water it. The plants stretched out up to 400 meters in length from our swimming pool to the Nice road. Though it was tiring, we had loads of fun. For the fun filled experience missing our first Saturday of the year was worth it. Thanks Madhu sir for the spectacular experience. We look forward to working with you next year as well.
"Sorry, I was unable to attend the event. On hearing from you that the event was successful, I'm happy. All the best", Mr.Ganesh, Range Forest Officer (SMS message)
